Nikki Scott

Founder

The idea of Scotty’s Little Soldiers first came to me just a few weeks after my husband Lee was killed but back then I was a complete mess and struggled to find the strength to get dressed let alone set a charity up! Now with the support of great friends and family it has been possible.

I know as an army widow myself with two young children how losing a parent can affect a child. Going through this experience or night- mare should I say, is unbearable for any adult but to watch a child suffer the loss of a parent is... well I can’t even find words to explain it.

Brooke was only 6 months when Lee left to start his tour of Afghanistan so I know her pain will begin as she grows older and begins to understand more. My son Kai, however, was
5 at the time so his grief and heartache began the day I told him that daddy couldn’t come home.

I have witnessed the sadness in Kai’s eyes; I’ve seen him breakdown sobbing for his daddy, have bad nightmares, horrific tantrums due to frustration and anger and the total confusion in his little face when he asks questions about why daddy isn’t going to come home.

Although I am just a 29 year old mum who has never done anything like this before, I am so passionate and determined to do all I can to help make Scotty’s Little Soldiers a huge success. I so wish that there was no need for this charity but unfortunately this world can be a cruel place and the children who are left behind now have to grow up without a special parent there to cuddle them goodnight, to play with them, laugh with them, pick them up from school or even watch them get married.

Through Scotty’s Little Soldiers I would love to help as many children in the same situation as mine to smile and have some fun because, to me, children of our fallen heroes are simply heroes themselves.

I hope you’ll join me in my mission and show your support,

Warm wishes, Nikki x

Stuart Robinson

Chief Operating Officer

I have over 10 years experience in business to business sales, marketing and product development as well as Business degree from London South Bank University and a Marketing Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

I am thrilled to be in a position to help the children of our fallen heroes. Scotty’s Little Soldiers is very close to my heart and I am eager to use my skills and experience to help

the charity grow and to put a smile on our members faces.

Chris Churcher

Communications Officer

I am the Communications Officer at Scotty’s Little Soldiers, I deal with media and Public Relations. Although never having any work experience in this area before, I am really enjoying my role within Scotty’s Little Soldiers. I communicate on a daily basis with the media and set up everything from interviews to press releases and am constantly working to build up my Media Contacts to benefit SLS so that I can help promote the charities awareness.

I served with Lee Scott and was a good friend of his, so this charity is very close to my heart. To be able to help bereaved children and put a smile back on their face even for a short time is such an amazing feeling and I am so proud of all that Nikki and Scotty’s Littl Soldiers has achieved so far.

Jason Worthy

Head of corporate fund rasing

I look after Corporate Fundraising for Scotty's in an attempt to find corporate partners who will help to raise both awareness and donations to help us buy our first holiday homes in the UK.  Nikki's brother, Stuart, was my best friend at high school and we lived about 3 houses down from each other so we all spent a lot of time together.  When I heard the tragic news about Lee I was devastated for Nikki, Kai and Brooke - I was amazed when, despite all that pain, Nikki was able to set up Scotty's and was immediately compelled to help.  With lots of friends in the military and as a father myself it is an honour to help the children of our fallen heroes.

John Robinson

Trading Manager

I have been a Manager in the Transport Industry for just over 35 years. I live in Harlow,
Essex with my wife Sharon. I am also the father of fellow trustee’s Nichola Scott and
Stuart Robinson.

During the past year I have seen what losing a parent in conflict can do to a family, I have witnessed first hand how my Daughter Nichola and 2 grandchildren Kai and Brooke have suffered since Lee was killed in Afghanistan. Scotty’s Little Soldiers is something Lee would be so proud off, he loved his kids and he would love the idea that in his memory we are helping children.

Sharon Robinson

Trading

My name is Sharon Robinson and my role within Scotty's Little Soldiers is running the Merchandise shop with my Husband John who is a Trustee. Together we make sure orders are met and distributed efficiently.

I cannot think of a better way of honoring a great soldier and Father than to be part of a wonderful charity set up in his memory.

Lara Cordery

National co-coordinator

I am a 39 year old mum of four and wife of a serving soldier. For the last two years I worked voluntarily in the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment welfare office, helping wives and families of soldiers cope with deployments and the ups and downs of being a military family. As I am no longer working in the welfare office I am able to devote all my spare time to Scotty's Little Soldiers.

My role within Scotty's is National Fundraising Co-Coordinator which involves answering all the emails from the wonderful people who are, running, cycling, swimming, holding fetes, parties, coffee mornings and loads of other fundraisers. I keep in touch with them and supply them with sponsor forms, information and help them in anyway I can. This is such an important charity and we along with the help of the nation can help these children who have lost so much, smile again and start to make new happy memories.

Leanne Reed

Norfolk Co-Coordinator

I am a 29 year old mother of one little boy Harvey, who is 7 as well as one on the way, due in October.  I have been a medical secretary for the NHS for 6 years.  My partner Simon is a serving soldier with 16 Air Assault.

I am extremely honored to be part of the Scotty’s team.  I have come to realise how important a charity like Scotty’s Little Soldiers is not only to the children themselves, but also to their families.  If by working with Scotty team we can help these children smile and be happy for just a little while, then it’s a job well done.

Sue Curtis

Suffolk Co-coordinator

My name is Sue Curtis and I am Suffolk Regional Fundraising Co-coordinator for SLS. Nichola Scott is my niece and I joined the team to support Nikki in her incredible efforts to help children to cope with their grief and smile again.

In my younger days I was involved with many fundraising charities and I hope to put that experience to good use for SLS.

Having seen their pain I can only imagine what these children must go through, but I have also seen what a difference we can make and I am proud to be part of this amazing charity.

Julie Chapman

Hampshire Co-coordinator

I am a wife of a serving soldier in the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment which is based in Tidworth, Wiltshire and became more involved with army life when my husband started to work in the Welfare Office over 3 years ago. I have seen how hard life is when your husbands and Dads are away on tour and how life is shattered in an instant with a knock at the door.

I was honored when Nikki asked me to be a fund raising co-coordinator for Hampshire and even though I work full time in Andover I attend as many events as possible with a Scotty’s Little Soldiers stall, in the Hampshire and surrounding counties.

I am privileged to be involved with Scotty’s Little Soldiers and will continue to help and support the charity.

Laura McKinney- Hopkins

Hampshire Co-coordinator

I have been a healthcare professional for the last 10 years. I am 26 and married to a serving soldier with two young children, Harriet and Joseph. I help Julie with events in Hampshire, running stalls, monitoring collection pots in the local area, and help giving people advice and information when they are holding fund raising events in this area.

It's very humbling to see the way a child deals with the death of a parent. Through all the pain and hurt they still manage to find a smile, and that smile never fails to melt a person’s heart. That is why I want to give my time to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, so that we as a charity can help make those smiles appear more often. These children deserve as much help and support we, as a nation can give.

Sue Robinson

Admin assistant

I’m Sue, mum to Stuart and Nikki. I have worked for the NHS as a Hospital Technician in King's Lynn, Norfolk for fourteen years. I am helping Nikki in the Scotty's Little Soldiers office dealing with administration such as banking and sending letters of thanks to the many wonderful people who have donated or have done some amazing fund raising for the charity.

I am proud and honored to help in any way I can to help put a smile on the children of the fallen, especially having experienced the devastating effect it has on them. Truly a worthy cause.

Mel Taylor

Admin assistant

I am 26 years old and recently got married to my husband who is in the armed forces, we have a daughter together, Angelica who is 2 years old. I am an easy going, fun person who is really enjoying being part of the Scotty team.

My role is to help in the office, sending emails, making phone calls, filing and the general office duties. It is a brilliant charity that I am proud to be apart off.

Trev Hopkins

Trustee

I am currently a serving soldier in the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment. I joined the army at the age of 17. During my career I have served in the UK, Germany and Canada and have been on operations in Kosovo, Iraq three times and Afghanistan. I am married to Laura and have 2 children, Harriet 3, and Joseph 2. I have been involved with Scotty’s Little Soldiers since day one and will continue to be a constant support.

Scotty's Little Soldiers is something that is close to my heart having seen first hand, the devastation that falls out from the death of a soldier. No group of people deserve our help more than the children that have lost a parent whilst serving in the forces.

Ben Roder

Trustee

I am Ben Roder, known to many as Patch. I've been in the army for 12 years. Being a trustee makes me proud in a number of ways. Firstly it allows me to be part of a charity that helps the children of our fallen and secondly it honors the memory of a Fantastic soldier and friend.

This charity will do so much in the battle that the families have to face, struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one. And I'm honored to be a part of it

Stephen Shine

Patron

Stephen joined the Army in 2004, and did his training in Winchester and bovington, where he then went onto the regiment in fally. Stephen served in Iraq in 2006 and sustained, injuries from an I.E.D on the 6th April 2007. After a year of hospital and rehab treatment where Stephen had to learn to walk again. in 2008 Stephen went back to serve his country in Afghan with Egypt on the same tour as lee Scott (Scotty).

I'm privileged to be part of this charity. Personally I think the children can be forgotten about, (not intentionally) so this is perfect for them. I was close to not coming back from my tour, which would have destroyed my family. Lee was a good friend and Nikki is a strong woman for setting up this wonderful charity. we are all so proud of her.
