Scotty's Rugby 7s launch new team shirt to raise funds for bereaved Armed Forces children

2021-05-18

“From the moment we heard about Scotty’s Little Soldiers we knew we had to do something to help.”

Invitational social charity rugby 7s team, Scotty’s Rugby, has announced the launch of its new team shirt to help raise money to help support hundreds of bereaved Forces children and young people up and down the country.

Continuing its seven years of support, Scotty’s Rugby 7s’ new shirt will help raise vital funds for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a national charity which supports children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the Armed Forces.

Set up in 2014, Scotty’s Rugby 7s, which boasts both a men’s and women’s rugby team, have tirelessly fundraised for the charity over the last seven years, raising over £8,000 in total. To continue their fundraising efforts, the rugby team, alongside Scotty’s Little Soldiers and sport equipment company Gilbert Rugby, have created a special fundraising shirt featuring some of the fallen heroes whose children are supported by Scotty’s, and will donate 100% of the profits to the charity.

Now available for pre-purchase, the rugby shirts aim to raise money to help Scotty’s Little Soldiers continue to provide invaluable support to its members at times when they need it the most.

Director of rugby at Scotty’s Rugby 7s, Nikki O'Donnell (35), said:

“From the moment we heard about Scotty’s Little Soldiers we knew we had to do something to help. Every game we set up our Scotty’s gazebo and run a fundraising shop, while the players go out and do collections. We’re so proud to represent the charity and wearing the names of the charity members’ fallen heroes will inspire us to play and fundraise even harder.
“The shirts, which we’ve designed alongside Scotty’s Little Soldiers and with the help of Gilbert Rugby, look and feel amazing. They’re available in both adult and child sizes, feature Scotty’s iconic colours of black, yellow and white, and are available now for pre-purchase. We hope they raise lots of much needed funds for the charity."

Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which was set up in 2010 by war widow Nikki Scott, offers integral support to children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the Armed Forces.

Nikki saw the devastating impact the death of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, in 2009 had on their two young children and wanted to help others in the same situation.

The charity is currently providing assistance to hundreds of bereaved Forces children and young people around the UK and services offered include guidance to parents and carers, access to professional child bereavement support, personal education and learning assistance (including grants) and fun activities such as holiday respite breaks and group events. These are all designed to remind the children and young people supported by Scotty’s that they are not alone.

Nikki Scott said:

“The support that Scotty’s Rugby 7s has provided to the charity over the years has been truly invaluable. They’ve travelled across the country and around the world, generating awareness and helping to raise much needed funds that allow us to support hundreds of bereaved Forces children and young people.
“The shirts themselves look incredible and the fact they have the names of some of our members’ fallen heroes on them, means they hold a special place in our hearts. We can’t thank Scotty’s Rugby 7s enough, and hope the shirts will be popular. I can’t wait to get mine.”
