Business Leaders Rally Behind Scotty’s Mission

2025-07-04

Business Heroes of Scotty’s gather in London to power long-term support for bereaved military families.

A powerful mix of emotion, ambition and action fuelled Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ annual Business Heroes Club Meet-Up, held at Convex Insurance in London on 2nd July 2025. Scotty’s CEO outlined the charity’s bold new vision before two of the record-breaking Mission Everest in 7 Days team lifted the lid on their extraordinary race to the top of the world and their powerful connection to the charity.

With attendees from businesses across the UK, the event highlighted how corporate support is driving sustainable impact for bereaved military children and young people – and explored Scotty’s bold plans to expand its mission to support the wider bereaved military community.

Scotty’s supports children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces. The charity’s Business Heroes Club is a growing network of purpose-driven companies committed to embedding meaningful impact into their operations – and helping ensure Scotty’s remains financially sustainable for the long term.

During the evening, Scotty’s founder Nikki Scott, whose husband Corporal Lee Scott was killed in Afghanistan in 2009, spoke about the ongoing challenges for children who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces:

Business Leaders attend event at Convex Insurance in London and hear about Scotty's plans.

“You don’t just tell a child once that their parent has died. You have to tell them multiple times as they grow – and the questions get tougher. What we do at Scotty’s is about walking alongside families as they face that reality, year after year.”

Scotty’s CEO Stuart Robinson shared the charity’s evolving vision:

“We’ve supported 760 bereaved military children so far this year and we’re on track to hit 1,000 by 2030. But we’ve also seen the wider gaps – bereaved siblings, parents, widowed dads – and we’re exploring how Scotty’s can grow into the single point of contact for anyone impacted by military connected bereavement.”

ThruDark co-founder and former Special Forces sniper Anthony ‘Staz’ Stazicker CGC and entrepreneur and former Special Forces operator Kevin Godlington, attended the event, fresh from a record-breaking Everest expedition to raise £1 million for military charities, including Scotty’s. Staz made a speech at the event and said:

“What you’re doing at Scotty’s is absolutely fantastic – One of the main points around climbing Everest is being aligned across mission, vision and values – not just from a business perspective, but personally as well - it’s why we got involved.”

Kevin also addressed the business representatives in the room and added:

“I have watched the gestation and the evolution of Scotty’s. To take unimaginable grief and turn it into a growing, credible, and professional charity takes extraordinary courage. What Nikki and the team have built is nothing short of marvellous.”

The event was hosted by corporate partner Convex Insurance, who recently pledged a significant, five-figure, multi-year commitment to Scotty’s – a testament to the value of long-term business partnerships in sustaining support for bereaved military families.

Andy Sloan, Head of Fundraising at Scotty’s, said:

“It’s hugely uplifting to see there is a momentum of awareness now of the need to support bereaved military families and the value that can bring to businesses who do so - just witness the way IEM for example have embraced what we do, put it front and centre of all their conversations, and find it generates added opportunities.

Scotty's Founder Nikki talks about the impact on bereaved military children.

Andy continued: “We’ve seen the Scotty’s Business Heroes Club really kick on this year, with incredible businesses like Babcock and Sunbelt joining long-standing supporters like Fortis Vision and Irwin Mitchell. We’ve seen it drive connections between members and lead to even bigger, multi-year partnerships, like from our fantastic hosts Convex, which enable us to support more children and their families to improve their emotional wellbeing, sense of connection and ultimately their educational and employment outcomes. We’re super grateful to everyone who came to our event and who has signed up to support or is waiting in the wings to make an impact.”

Ryann Peterson, Director of Boom Construction and a founding member of the Business Heroes Club, said:

“Scotty’s mission is massive - they need help, support, awareness and cash. I’m proud to spread the word throughout my network and, as Boom continues to grow, ensure we scale our support and share our success.

“These children deserve the best chance possible in life as losing a parent is catastrophic. Working with Scotty’s enables us to give back in a meaningful way that resonates personally and with a lot of our military connections across the construction industry.”

Tony Reeve, Chairman and Founder of MAIAR, added:

“Scotty’s is doing incredible, vital work and it’s clear they are really making a difference. Joining Scotty’s Business Heroes Club enables us to give more to our military community, as many of our team are military veterans, spouses, reservists, volunteer band musicians and have been adult Cadet instructors. MAIAR is very much a Defence business, and we look forward to building and growing our relationship with Scotty’s over the coming years.”
